The Air that We Breathe
This month, as our consecutive birthdays begin, provides me a chance to give a shout-
out to ‘My Girls’ – those albeit unrelated by blood are my family in every other sense of
the word. Sisters that have shared their love, smarts, generosity, and hearts with me
since we were first graders and those who have followed via God’s intervention. I used
to think that everyone had ‘Girls’ like mine in their lives. Some years ago, however, while
watching Sunday Morning on CBS Television, I learned that very few do. And fewer
still have ones that have stuck by them through thick and thin since day one of college.
And even less are blessed with special “Girls,” who came along a bit later in lives.
‘My Girls’ are a cornucopia. Without them, there are days that I’d be lost,
notwithstanding my loving and wonderful husband and our family. So, I will never take
them for granted because they are the good Lord’s precious gifts! Their rareness is
extreme. May each of your readers be equally blessed.
Sister-to-Sister, Inc. is built on the tenacles of “Sisterhood”, as was its predecessor,
Sister-to-Sister. Those wonderful Sisters who helped me create the Tribe 32 years
ago and have expanded it since understand that we are truly stronger together and that
we must build each other up – not tear each other down. The fact is that those who
come to destroy face destruction, while those who come to build create something of
beauty that’s indescribable and enduring. This month, will you join me in thanking your
‘Girls’, who make air lighter. We will rise as we breathe together.
