I Dream A Beloved Community
December 28th arrives as a beautiful Sunday in Colorado, adorned with glistening white snow that appeared overnight like a gift from heaven. This spectacular snowfall transformed temperatures from the 70s on Christmas Day to the crisp 30s today — reminding us that change, though sometimes unexpected, can bring its own kind of magic. Sunshine pierces through a leafy, pale aqua sky, flooding the earth with effervescent light that seems to whisper: There is beauty yet to be found.
On this glorious day, time with our precious granddaughter — a spirited child whose radiant joy — reminds me why we persist. After a turbulent year when authentic community, love for one another, and selflessness felt scarce, her laughter becomes our North Star.
Remembering Dr. King's Vision
I find myself reaching back to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Mountaintop Dream — his vision of a Beloved Community built on Oneness, not divisiveness. A community where we judge by the content of character, not the color of skin. Martin dreamed of — and sacrificed his life for — a world where every human being stands on equal ground with boots firmly planted, and no one is left behind the goalpost.
That dream is not dead. It lives in us. And it calls us forward.
Faith as Our Foundation
As a BELIEVER, I know that faith can never become forlorn. Faith tethers us to the future. Without it, we are lost. So I invite you to hold tight to infinite possibilities with me:
Find hope in children's smiles — their laughter at simple, priceless moments.
Hear joy in their giggles — when they're twirled around and lifted high.
Look for light in the darkest nights — where stars twinkle and glow with promise.
See resilience in nature — a single lovely bloom pushing through winter's hard ground.
Feel the rhythm of connection — melodic drumbeats from the Motherland, mirroring our beating hearts.
Our Commitment for the New Year
As we step into the New Year together, let us commit to this transformative vision:
We will open our eyes wider to see God's creations in their splendid glory.
We will cast open our ears for His constantly whispered words of encouragement.
We will open our minds to surface deeply hidden knowledge and ancestral wisdom.
We will listen for our Ancestors' voices accompanied by the orchestra above.
And imitating them, we won't just sing about hope-filled futures — we shall manifest them into fruition.
This is our sacred work. This is our collective calling. And I invite you to walk this journey with me, knowing that we are not alone and never were. The Maestro of the Universe is within us, guiding every step toward the Beloved Community we dream of creating together.
Will you join us in making this vision real?
Blessings always,
Velveta
